Textbooks have a huge impact on how people teach.<\/p>\n<p>Why task?<\/p>\n<p>The new Course of Study (\u304c\u304f\u3057\u3085\u3046\u3057\u3069\u3046\u3088\u3046\u308a\u3087\u3046\uff09for Foreign Languages says that students have to improve their communication skills. Task activities can help communication skills. The reason is that they provide real communicative situations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Focus on meaning<\/li>\n<li>Gap<\/li>\n<li>Using learners&#8217; resources<\/li>\n<li>Achievement is not assessed by language use<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sunshine has the most activities but most do not meet the task criteria<\/li>\n<li>New Crown has fewer activities but almost all activities meet some task criteria.<\/li>\n<li>New Horizon had the fewest that met the task criteria.<\/li>\n<li>The criterion easiest to achieve was Gap.<\/li>\n<li>The hardest to achieve was resource.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Implication<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To encourage authentic communications teachers will need to make activities outside the textbook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Veronica: SETT (Self Evaluation of Teacher Talk)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aim: <\/strong>Get teachers to think about classroom interaction as a means of improving both teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>The framework is comprised of four classroom microcontext or modes. Microcontexts or modes have clearly defined goals and distinctive interactional features. They are determined largely by teachers&#8217; use of language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Managerial mode:<\/strong> Organize learning. To set up or conclude classroom activities. The features are one long teacher turn. &#8220;Today, we are going to learn about&#8230;..&#8221; &#8220;I want you all to work in groups of 4&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classroom context mode:<\/strong> Opportunities for genuine communication. Learners have more opportunities to talk. Focus is on the content, not the form. The teacher is a conversation partner or listener.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skills and systems mode:<\/strong> Provide language practice in relation to a particular language system. It focuses on accuracy more than fluency. It is characterized by extended teacher turns and display question (questions for which the teacher knows the answer)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Material mode:<\/strong> Focusing on the materials being used
