Ao-chan

Researched the history of education for international understanding.

Her sources are:

永井滋郎. (1989). 国際理解教育地球的な協力のために. 東京:第一学習者

財団法人国際協力推進協会. (2001). 開発教育・国際理解教育ハンドブック. 東京:株式会社ビュープロ.

Here are some of the things she learned.

After WW2, education for international understanding was encouraged by UNESCO because they thought understanding of other cultures was necessary for world peace.

Education for international understanding has changed names multiple times such as education for international understanding and peace.

Next time, Ao-chan will read about the history of international understanding education of Japan.

Something interesting Aochan learned: She did not know UNESCO promoted education so it was a new idea.

Ao-chan’s tentative idea:

Ao chan wants to research the purposes of international education in the world and Japan and then she wants to design a class based on the purpose.

James’ suggestion

Investigate the role of teaching culture in foreign language education outside and inside Japan. After determining various roles that understanding culture plays in foreign language teaching, examine the JHS textbooks to see its presentation of culture meets the criteria you made. Provide suggestions for how the textbook material can be enhanced.

Teddy

First he read:

岡秀夫 他. (2004). 英語授業力強化マニュアル. 東京:大修館書店.

He learned:

Three types of test: proficiency test & achievement test. Ted will analyze the proficiency test. There are four points for a good test: 1. Validity: The test measures what it is designed to measure. 2. Reliability: A student who takes the same or similar test again will have a similar score; 3. Practicality: Whether or not the test is easy to conduct; 4. Discrimination: Can distinguish between high and low level learners.
