Ai’s Soft CLIL Lesson
I have some questions about it:
- Why is this lesson a CLIL lesson?
- How can you answer your research questions with the questionnaire?
- Do you plan on using more English in the lesson?
Easier version of the text written at the B2 level:
Today, an increasing number of people interact with generative AI as if it
were a close friend. AI listens patiently without judgment, providing emotional
comfort to those who feel lonely.
However, Jacob Coxon, a former top AI researcher at Anthropic and
OpenAI, recently warned that developing self-improving superintelligence
without safety controls could pose catastrophic risks to humanity.
Furthermore, communication scholars emphasize that real friendship requires
mutual empathy and shared feelings. Because AI merely calculates words
through algorithms to please users, this connection may only be a
communication illusion.
Can a technology without a heart truly replace human friends?
Kazu’s Lesson
Overall, it was very interesting! Please consider the following when planning the lesson.
- If the teacher expects the students to use English, the teacher must also use English.
- Can you demonstrate the activity first, perhaps with different cards, before you have students do it?
- Students might not understand that they need to negotiate about the activities and that they should not easily agree to do something they do not like.
- A time limit for speaking would be helpful.
