Hiyopi: Designing tests

She realized that the tests that she took at JHS and HS were not sufficiently measuring her ability. Her tests were only measuring what she learned in the class.

An example is students understanding a passage because they know the translation. She wants to rethink how to do a achievement test (end-of-term-test).

Hypothesis: Even students who are not good at English can score well on the Hiyoppi test.

She wants to do two experiments:

  1. Questionnaire: About the tests they took, how they tended to score on the tests. Strategies students used to score well on the test.
  2. Have students take the Hiyoppi test. In one test, they are exposed the the grammar items. With the other one, they are not.

For next week, Hiyoppi will design a test.

Research question:

What areas of intercultural communicative competence are developed in a web conversation between Japanese students and Nepalese students.

Next time: Categorize responses.
