Superwoman is interested in pronunciation instruction. In class, when a student speaks with good pronunciation, other students say they do not understand. She thinks the student should not feel bad that other students cannot understand. She thinks that the other students think that because they are Japanese they do not have to speak native like. If possible, they want to speak like a native, she thinks. She believes that if children can learn pronunciation from a young age they will not have any issues.

Two possibilities for research

  1. Investigate student anxiety about pronunciation.
    1. Read about (foreign language learning anxiety, Japanese learners pronunciation problems, pronunciation instruction in Japan)
    2. Think of research questions.
    3. Make a questionnaire to give students
  2. Action research on using phonetic symbols.
    1. Research pronunciation (What is the skill? What problems do Japanese have with pronunciation? What are different methods of instruction? )
    2. Research question
    3. Methodology (Pre-test, treatment, post-test, pre and post-treatment questionnaire)
