Today we discussed the topics for our papers:

Ted

Topics:

  • Research how to make communicative tests.
  • Research how to grade speaking.

One idea for research
1) Read books about communicative language testing
2) Make a framework for communicative language tests
3) Analyze university entrances exams or high school entrance exams and whether or not they promote communicative abilities. Your analysis is based on your framework.

Superman

Topic: Chants in elementary school;

Superman wants to know:

  • What are chants?
  • What types of chants are there?
  • Why do we need chants?
  • Method by Carolyn Graham, jazz chants

Ideas for outline

    1. Read and introduce the literature on chants
    2. Make a typology of chants
    3. Analysis
        • Option 1: Analyze the chants in Hi, Friends, what are the purposes of the chants?
        • Option 2: Develop your own chants that can be sued with Hi, Friends to demonstrate each kind of type
        • Option 3: Compare chants in Hi, Friends to other textbooks such as Carolyn Graham, Genki English

Bruno

Topic: Music

Possible Outline
1) Read literature on how songs are used and how they encourage English learning
2) Make a typology of purposes for using music, kinds of activities
3) Analysis, action:

  • Design various activities using songs to use for JHS. Each song should demonstrates the purpose or kind of activity you discussed in (2)
  • Test the songs on university students and discuss the results.

Topic: Education of International Understanding

Proposals for research

  • Read more books and summarize
  • Give a questionnaire to JHS students. When they hear the word 異文化理解, what do they imagine?
  • Think about how to improve this education in JHS

Topics: The effectiveness of picture books, Eric Carle, Connection with picture books and early English education

Possible Outline
Which kinds of pictures books are appropriate for each grade in ES?
(1) How young children learn (5 to 7, 8 – 9, 10-12)
(2) How picture books encourage language learning
(3) Types of picture books
(4) Ways that picture books are used
(5) Create picture book lessons for each grade based on 1, 2, 3, 4.
